Tanzania's Mtumba Government City Phase II Completes Main Construction, with Cumulative Investment of 698 Billion Shillings

The project commenced its second phase in October 2021, with a cumulative investment of approximately 698 billion Tanzanian shillings to date. The main works, including 26 ministry office buildings, 11 government agency buildings, and 57.1 kilometers of paved roads, have been completed or essentially completed, and upon full completion, the project will provide office space for approximately 18,510 government staff. The project inauguration ceremony originally scheduled for September 8 has been postponed, as announced on September 7, with the new date yet to be disclosed.
The scope of Phase II construction of Mtumba Government City includes, in addition to office buildings for ministries and government agencies, permanent communication facilities, the Mashujaa Grounds public event venue, and related social supporting facilities. The government disclosed that the construction of office buildings is being implemented by 11 contractors and 5 consulting firms, while the project also involves various infrastructure works undertaken by institutions such as the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency, the Dodoma Urban Water and Sanitation Authority, the Tanzania Electric Supply Company, the Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation, and the e-Government Authority.
Currently, some supporting works are still under construction. Incomplete components include approximately 42 kilometers of underground power infrastructure, clean water supply and sewage pipeline networks, sewage treatment ponds, information and communication infrastructure, closed-circuit television surveillance systems, and fire and rescue stations. The government is also implementing greening, tree planting, and surrounding environmental improvement works for the government city. Therefore, this milestone signifies the basic completion of main facilities such as office buildings and roads, rather than the full completion of all supporting works in Phase II.
The government city has formed a comprehensive construction system comprising office buildings, urban roads, water supply and drainage, power, and communication facilities. The inauguration event originally scheduled for September 8 covers 26 ministry office buildings, 11 government agency buildings, and 57.1 kilometers of paved roads.
Mtumba Government City is located in Dodoma, the capital of Tanzania. Multiple central government departments have already moved into the area for office operations, including government agencies such as the Ministry of Energy. The remaining construction in Phase II will continue to focus on underground power supply, water supply and drainage, sewage treatment, communications, security surveillance, fire protection, and landscaping facilities.
