en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 7, the New South Wales Government announced a residential development proposal for Haberfield and Ashfield in Sydney's inner west, planning four residential buildings on government-owned land around Parramatta Road, Alt Street, and Bland Street, providing approximately 340 dwellings in total, of which 30% will be social housing. The proposed buildings will range from 3 to 7 storeys in height and will include landscaped public spaces, car parking, and bicycle parking facilities, with some community and non-residential uses also planned along Parramatta Road.

The project site was previously used primarily for WestConnex project offices and related construction facilities, and was later identified through a New South Wales Government land review as surplus government land suitable for residential development. The planning involves multiple parcels on both sides of Parramatta Road, with some sites located north of Alt Street and between Alt Street and Bland Street. The relevant sites are adjacent to schools, commercial facilities, and bus routes, and the state government plans to increase the residential supply capacity of government land within the established urban area through redevelopment.

The project is being progressed by Homes NSW and has not yet entered the formal construction phase. Homes NSW is currently conducting preliminary community consultation, and after finalising plan adjustments, will submit a State Significant Development application to the New South Wales Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. The New South Wales Government's 2026–2027 procurement plan has also listed "HAFF—Social Housing Haberfield" as a construction procurement project, reference number PP-100603, with market procurement procedures expected to commence in the second quarter of the 2026–2027 financial year, providing procurement arrangements for the subsequent social housing construction.

This development forms part of the New South Wales Government's $6.6 billion "Building Homes for NSW" housing program. The program includes the delivery of more than 8,400 new social housing dwellings. Based on the current planning ratio of approximately 340 dwellings with 30% social housing, the project is expected to deliver around 100 social housing units, with the final dwelling numbers, building scale, and functional configuration still subject to the subsequent State Significant Development application and approval documents.
