Oman's $384 Million Cultural Complex Canopy Steel Structure Basically Completed

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 1, Mace Consult provided an update on the construction progress of the Sayyid Tarik bin Taimur Cultural Complex in Muscat, Oman, reporting that the project's iconic canopy steel structure is basically complete, with external infrastructure, utilities, and interior and exterior finishing works advancing in parallel. Located in Al Seeb, the project covers an area of 400,000 square meters with a total investment of OMR 147.8 million, approximately USD 384 million.

The project is being advanced by Oman's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, with Saif al Harasi undertaking the design and build and Emirates Building Systems responsible for the steel structure works. Mace Consult has served as the project management consultant since 2022, overseeing project management, program management, commercial supervision, and delivery assurance. SSH confirmed on August 5 that it had been appointed as the construction supervision consultant, responsible for construction activity oversight, quality monitoring, and specialist subcontractor coordination.

The project's main buildings include a 23,000-square-meter National Library, a 22,500-square-meter National Archives, a 16,300-square-meter National Theatre, and a 13,165-square-meter Cultural Plaza. The National Theatre features two auditoriums with 1,000 and 252 seats respectively. The project also includes four ancillary buildings and an 8,000-square-meter energy and data center. All buildings are arranged around an urban plaza, complemented by landscaping, water features, and a large canopy structure.

Construction supervision documents released by SSH on August 5 show that its contractual scope covers the entire construction process of the project, including construction activity supervision, project quality monitoring, specialist consultant coordination, and collaboration among all participating parties. The project components disclosed at that time included the National Library, National Archives, National Theatre, ancillary buildings, and the energy and data center. Entering September, the canopy steel structure has reached a basically complete state, with external infrastructure and utilities continuing construction and interior and exterior finishing works progressing in parallel.

The canopy steel structure was undertaken by Emirates Building Systems, a subsidiary of Dubai Investments. Saif al Harasi, the project's design-build general contractor, continues to advance the complex's construction works, while Mace Consult manages project-level schedule, commercial, and delivery matters, and SSH provides on-site construction supervision. The latest project milestone publicly disclosed is the basic completion of the canopy steel structure, with the project still in the overall construction phase.
