en.Wedoany.com Reported - Shiv Trisal, Global Head of Industrial GTM at data and artificial intelligence company Databricks, stated that AI is far from becoming an operational reality for many industrial enterprises, with the core challenge being how to move relevant strategies from PowerPoint presentations to actual production. Since its founding in 2013, Databricks has served over 20,000 customers, including 70% of the Fortune 500. Its platform unifies structured and unstructured data in a single environment, overlaying an intelligence layer that enables ordinary business users to take action based on data.
Data fragmentation is a major obstacle to applying AI in the industrial sector. Mal Vivek, founder and CEO of AI consulting firm Zeb, pointed out that data is scattered across numerous heterogeneous systems, including structured, unstructured, and semi-structured formats. Anupam Gupta, co-founder of Celebal Technologies, noted that some of its manufacturing clients have as many as 44 ERP instances and approximately 33 unique software tools. His team leverages Databricks to integrate these environments and deploy AI agents capable of taking action across systems.
To address the issue at a structural level, Databricks is advancing a new architecture called Lakebase, designed to eliminate the traditional boundaries between analytical and operational data systems, allowing AI outputs to flow directly into real-time operational workflows without human intervention. For example, in the automotive industry, managing bills of materials involving tens of thousands of parts and multiple vehicle models, while coordinating real-time risk and recall data, is precisely the problem Lakebase aims to solve.
For business users, Databricks has launched a product called Genie, an agentic AI system that answers questions about enterprise data using natural language. An energy company user could ask why a specific container ship has deviated from its route, and Genie would construct a multi-step analysis plan and return the answer without requiring any code. Shiv Trisal stated that the product has already helped replace all Excel spreadsheets and 40 dashboards with a single human-machine interface.
In terms of the partner ecosystem, Tredence's RAPID platform uses a multi-agent system to reduce decision latency; supply chain planning software company Kinaxis is integrating Databricks into its Maestro platform. Andrew Bell, Chief Product Officer at Kinaxis, explained that agentic AI is driving autonomous decision-making, democratizing access for non-technical users, and enabling the composability of end-to-end workflows.
Shiv Trisal acknowledged that AI has not yet fully delivered on its promises in industrial environments, with frontier models having limited impact on the physical world. Databricks' priority for the coming year is to roll out Genie more broadly to business users and establish Lakebase as the foundation for human-machine collaboration, with the key being to integrate IT, operational technology, and engineering data under a single intelligent engine.
