en.Wedoany.com Reported - Germany's Hellweg Maschinenbau has introduced Smart Flow technology, enabling real-time measurement of bulk material flow through crushers. The company states that this is the next step in the development of its Smart Control system and also lays the foundation for integrating artificial intelligence (AI) control modules.
The digital Smart Control system, launched in 2019, is now available for all Hellweg crushers and granulators. It records power consumption, motor speed, and bearing temperature, and can optimize the ratio between motor load and throughput.
The new Smart Flow technology, unveiled for the first time at the K 2025 trade fair, continuously measures bulk material flow via sensors in the riser of the extraction duct system. This non-contact sensor uses microwave technology to detect changes in particle concentration and velocity.
Smart Flow data is fed into the Smart Control system for processing and displayed as grinding mass per hour. The system can calculate grinding performance statistics per day, week, or month and send them to the user's MES system.
Managing Director Mark Hellweg stated that with the new data, Smart Flow users "gain a valuable additional option for planning maintenance work and avoiding unplanned downtime. Ultimately, it is not the machine's grinding time that determines the service life of components such as knives, screens, and V-belts, but the grinding work it performs."
Hellweg says the control system is ready for the integration of self-learning AI modules. These modules can calculate the optimal ratio between material properties, feed rate, and required power, then independently adjust the machine to maximize energy efficiency.
Hellweg, known for its cutting-edge technology, is currently developing AI modules. Mark Hellweg's father, Bernd, who founded the company in 1985, stated in a recent email interview that AI integration is expected to begin early next year.
The company produces a range of machines, including mobile beside-the-press granulators, low-speed granulators of various sizes, central granulators/crushers, and complete fully automatic recycling lines.
