en.Wedoany.com Reported - Repsol Petróleo's self-consumption photovoltaic project at the Puertollano (Ciudad Real) industrial complex has entered the simplified environmental assessment phase. The project plans to build a 48.02 MW photovoltaic plant and a 4 MW, 16,256 kWh battery energy storage system, which will operate in hybrid mode with the existing 80.5 MW cogeneration plant.

The solar plant will consist of 88,972 photovoltaic modules of 540 Wp each, with a fenced area of 93.73 hectares, of which 23.64 hectares are effectively occupied by the modules. The energy storage system uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology, comprising eight battery containers installed over an area of 0.29 hectares, with an energy capacity of 16,256 kWh, allowing discharge at rated power for slightly over four hours.

The electrical infrastructure includes a 30 kV underground line of 3,231.5 meters, connecting the photovoltaic plant and the storage system to the new Autoconsumo Puertollano 30/132 kV substation. This substation is designed with two voltage levels and occupies 0.41 hectares. From this substation, a 132 kV double-circuit overhead transmission line will be routed, supported by five metal structures over a length of 615 meters, connecting to Repsol Química's ST Parque Norte 132/6.3 kV substation. One of the support points will also branch off a 228-meter single-circuit line to Repsol Petróleo's ST Parque Norte 132/6.3 kV substation.

As part of its industrial transformation, Repsol launched a biodiesel fuel plant at the complex last month. This plant utilizes used cooking oil and other agri-food industry waste, with an annual production capacity of 200,000 tons of renewable fuel, involving an investment of 130 million euros to retrofit a refining unit. The new unit uses renewable hydrogen produced internally at the complex, achieved by replacing natural gas with biogenic gas from waste, for which Repsol made an additional investment of 16 million euros. The complex also features a 400-kilometer pipeline connecting to the Cartagena biodiesel plant, facilitating the distribution of renewable diesel to the peninsular market, while the facility also produces sustainable aviation fuel made from organic waste.

Projects announced for Puertollano also include an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene plant, a material used for high-performance industrial and medical applications, which is expected to become operational soon. According to Repsol, cumulative investment in Puertollano over the past five years amounts to approximately 800 million euros, allocated to industrial transformation and project development.
