en.Wedoany.com Reported - Magda, President of Petrobras, stated on Tuesday (23rd) that the company and the state of Rio de Janeiro intend to build a petrochemical complex in the state, with the site centered around Polo Boaventura, where the company has already concentrated its natural gas processing operations and plans to construct a thermoelectric plant.

According to the state-owned enterprise's president, the plastics industry in surrounding areas could leverage the integration between Petrobras and Braskem. This concept partially echoes the old COMPERJ (Rio de Janeiro Petrochemical Complex), which, after years of stagnation due to industry crises and corruption cases, was restructured to focus on natural gas processing.

"We have the right to dream of building a petrochemical complex around the Boaventura complex, capable of locking in industrial clients. We want to produce and process natural gas, and use this gas to improve refining operations in Rio de Janeiro state. We want this gas to be used at Braskem in Rio and achieve its final applications. Why can't Rio de Janeiro state manufacture pipes and fittings, as well as PET bottles and automotive plastic parts, all centered around Boaventura? This is the future we envision," Magda said during the release of the "2026 Rio Oil Yearbook" by Firjan (Federation of Industries of Rio de Janeiro State).

In two segments of her speech, Magda reiterated Petrobras' opposition to the Gas Release project, a natural gas sector deconcentration initiative currently under study by the ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels). The ANP plans to hold public consultations in October and November, with implementation scheduled for 2027. As Brazil's largest natural gas producer, Petrobras is the primary entity affected by Gas Release.

"We have doubled the volume of natural gas supplied to the Brazilian market. This alone has enabled the restart of fertilizer plants. We are not abolishing the law of supply and demand. Changing the ownership of natural gas will not lower natural gas prices. What lowers natural gas prices is work, investment, new projects, and gas in the market. We are working toward that. Without an increase in production, there will be no increase in demand," Magda said.
