en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced progress on a 14.5 km bus and taxi dedicated lane project, which plans to set up exclusive lanes on six major roads across the emirate to enhance public transport efficiency and reduce travel times.

Upon completion, Dubai's bus lane network will extend from the current 6.1 km to 20.6 km. The RTA expects the expanded network to encourage more residents to use public transport, with bus passenger capacity on some routes projected to increase by up to 30%.

According to an RTA statement, the project covers Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street, 2nd December Street, Al Satwa Street, Al Nahda Street, Omar Bin Al Khattab Street, and Naif Street.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, stated that bus and taxi dedicated lanes are a key initiative to achieve Dubai's sustainable mobility goals, aiming to enhance the reliability and attractiveness of public transport services by reducing travel times and improving punctuality. This project ranks among global best practices and successful transport policies, with objectives including reducing travel times, improving bus punctuality, enhancing taxi arrival times, lowering direct and indirect operational costs, promoting increased public transport usage in communities, strengthening integration among various transport modes, and reducing pollution emissions. These outcomes will advance the strategic goal of "One Dubai," improve quality of life, and solidify Dubai's position as a global leader in seamless mobility and urban sustainability.

According to RTA data, travel times on bus routes using the dedicated lanes during peak hours are expected to decrease by 24% to 59%, and bus arrival punctuality is projected to improve by 28% to 56%. Specifically, travel times on Naif Street could be reduced by up to 59%, Al Satwa Street by 54%, and Omar Bin Al Khattab Street by 50%. Additionally, bus arrival times on 2nd December Street are expected to improve by up to 56%, and on Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street by 52%.

This expansion builds on the construction of bus lanes in three previous phases. These phases helped reduce travel times on some bus routes by approximately 5 minutes per trip, achieving a 24% improvement in travel time, and increasing satisfaction among passengers, bus drivers, and taxi drivers. Previously, the RTA had built 6.1 km of bus lanes, including a 4.3 km two-way bus and taxi lane on Khalid bin Al Waleed Street, extending from the intersection with Al Mina Street to before the intersection with Zaa’beel Street. The work also covered a 500-meter section on Naif Street, a 900-meter section on Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street from Al Satwa Roundabout to Sheikh Rashid Street, and a 400-meter section on Al Ghubaiba Street from the intersection with Al Mina Street to Street 12.
