en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Norwegian Coastal Administration has awarded the engineering and construction contract for the Stad ship tunnel to Norwegian civil engineering company AF Gruppen.

The turnkey contract is valued at NOK 5.6 billion (approximately USD 560 million), excluding VAT.

The project includes a fully equipped maritime traffic tunnel with all necessary facilities. According to project supporters, the tunnel is 1,700 meters long, with a cross-sectional area approximately 20 times that of a road tunnel.

The agency stated that this ship tunnel will allow vessels, including those as large as the Kystruten and Hurtigruten coastal ships, to safely navigate past the Stadlandet peninsula in Vestland county.

During the bidding phase, AF Gruppen collaborated with the Norwegian Coastal Administration and consulting firm Norconsult on project development.

The Norwegian civil engineering company said construction will begin in early 2027, with an estimated duration of about five years.
