The announcement was made at DISTRIBUTECH 2025, where Verizon-connected Honeywell smart meters provide utilities with a cellular network to monitor energy usage and equipment performance. This data is integrated into platforms like Honeywell Forge Performance+, offering real-time insights to enhance grid reliability and reduce operational costs.
TJ Fox, Senior Vice President at Verizon Business, emphasized that secure connectivity in smart meters simplifies resource management, reduces waste, and eases grid burden. He noted that this technology will be critical for utilities as they adapt to evolving energy demands and minimize disruptions. Amol Motivala, President of Honeywell Smart Energy, highlighted the role of AI, Cloud, and 5G in driving autonomy for utilities, reimagining energy distribution through real-time connectivity.
The smart meters also support remote upgradability, extending their useful life and reducing technician visits. This reduces service interruptions and enhances customer satisfaction. Additionally, integration with Verizon ThingSpace provides insights into IoT device health, improving fleet management.
