Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 5, SLB secured a significant drilling contract from Woodside Energy, an Australian company, for the Trion ultra-deepwater project located offshore Mexico. SLB will manage the drilling of 18 wells in water depths reaching up to 2,500 meters. The company plans to use an integrated approach, combining advanced services and AI-enhanced drilling technology to boost efficiency and ensure high-quality well construction.

The contract covers a wide range of services, including digital directional drilling, hardware, logging while drilling (LWD), surface logging, cementing, drilling and completions fluids, completions, and wireline services. These efforts aim to address the complex technical demands of the ultra-deepwater environment. Operations are scheduled to start in early 2026, coordinated through SLB’s Performance Live™ digital service delivery centers.

Wallace Pescarini, president of Offshore Atlantic at SLB, commented: “With water depths of up to 2,500 meters, the Trion development presents challenging technical conditions for drilling and well construction. SLB has extensive expertise in ultra-deepwater drilling projects globally and advanced technologies, including AI and digitally enabled hardware, to bring these wells online safely, efficiently and reliably. We will also leverage the strategic investments we’ve made in local talent and supply chains in Mexico, which will help support the on-time delivery of this project.”

This agreement builds on a previous contract awarded to the SLB OneSubsea™ joint venture by Woodside in 2023 for the Trion project. That deal involved supplying subsea horizontal trees, controls, and topside equipment, with manufacturing currently progressing as planned. SLB’s involvement reflects its growing role in supporting the development of this major offshore field.

Woodside is collaborating with Pemex, Mexico’s state-owned energy company, to develop the Trion field. The project targets first production in 2028, marking a key milestone in the region’s energy output. SLB’s use of local resources and expertise in Mexico strengthens its ability to deliver the project efficiently.

The Trion development highlights the application of cutting-edge technology in challenging deepwater conditions. SLB’s integrated services and digital tools are set to play a vital role in meeting the project’s goals, ensuring the wells are completed safely and on schedule.
