This acquisition will drive the creation of new homes, commercial areas, and full-time employment opportunities.

EMCCA is providing investment for the project.

As the national government’s housing and regeneration body, Homes England will take ownership of the former shopping center, nearby land, a multistorey car park, Severns House, and a former college site. The next phase involves readying the area for private-sector participation. Initial steps include demolition and preparatory work to reduce risks, followed by attracting developers experienced in urban center projects.

The Broad Marsh redevelopment aims to deliver around 1,000 homes and up to 20,000 square meters of mixed-use space, encompassing retail, office, and community facilities. The initiative is projected to create about 2,000 full-time jobs, boosting local economic activity.

Funding support will come from the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), aligning with the government’s updated devolution framework. Homes England plans to maintain a strong collaboration with Nottingham City Council to realize the shared vision for Broad Marsh. The agency will also keep engaging with residents, partners, and stakeholders, building on the council’s prior work to advance the project.

In a separate development, Bath & North East Somerset Council in England recently obtained £18.2 million ($23.4 million) from Homes England’s Housing Infrastructure Fund. This investment will aid the sustainable redevelopment of the long-vacant Bath Gasworks site, reflecting the agency’s broader role in supporting regional growth. The Broad Marsh project, however, remains a key focus for revitalizing Nottingham through practical urban renewal.
