en.Wedoany.com Reported - Canada's South Bow and U.S.-based Bridger Pipeline said on Tuesday they plan to jointly develop a new crude oil pipeline from Guernsey, Wyoming to Cushing, Oklahoma. The project will be developed along a corridor acquired from another company, and the two companies said their current priority is to advance cooperation with landowners and communities along the proposed route.

The pipeline will be the third segment of a larger project to transport crude oil from Alberta to the Cushing hub. A research report released by JPMorgan last week noted that the joint venture between South Bow and Bridger has acquired the right-of-way for the Liberty Pipeline from Tallgrass Energy. The Liberty Pipeline, originally planned to transport crude oil from the Rocky Mountains and North Dakota's Bakken region to Cushing, was previously canceled.

South Bow and Bridger have previously proposed separate crude oil pipeline projects, named Prairie Connector, from Alberta to Guernsey, Wyoming. The project could increase Canadian crude oil exports to the United States by more than 12%, providing much-needed export capacity for Canada. U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order in April granting a permit for the cross-border project, which is seen as a partial restart of Keystone XL. In 2021, former President Joe Biden formally revoked the construction permit for Keystone XL, which was the last major proposed pipeline between the U.S. and Canada.

The Prairie Connector's route within the United States differs from that of Keystone XL. South Bow's segment will utilize approximately 150 kilometers of existing but idle pipeline within Canada, which will connect to Bridger's proposed pipeline in Montana and extend approximately 1,038 kilometers to Guernsey.

"The third segment is an integral part of the entire project," said Matthew Lewis, founder of energy analytics firm Plainview Energy Analytics. "Currently, there is no significant crude oil takeaway capacity from the Wyoming/Colorado region to major hubs like Cushing, so a new large-scale project is needed to transport crude oil from Wyoming to the oil hub."

According to documents filed with Canadian energy regulators, South Bow plans to restart construction of its Prairie Connector segment around the second quarter of 2027, with the pipeline expected to be operational around the fourth quarter of 2028. The company said last month it has secured the shipper commitments needed to move forward with the project.
