en.Wedoany.com Reported - Bennetts Cranes, in close collaboration with Liebherr, has erected the UK's first 620 HC-L tower crane in a city center to construct a 200-room hotel. The crane specialist determined that the luffing jib model was the ideal solution for this project on a confined site with restricted access, selecting the equipment to lift 14-tonne panels within an exceptionally tight space.
The site is space-constrained, not allowing overreach beyond neighboring apartment buildings and structures, with the crane positioned 4 meters from the edge of the building. Bennetts Cranes chose the 620 HC-L, a solution with a small footprint, outstanding performance, and efficient operation. The crane has a minimum operating position of 4.1 meters with a full 65-meter jib, and a minimum non-working radius of just 12.3 meters, allowing the crane to be placed close to the structure without encroaching on adjacent airspace. On this site, Bennetts configured the equipment with a 45-meter jib in single-fall operation, parking at 12.9 meters in non-working mode. Its compact footprint makes it an efficient and flexible solution in complex, high-density construction environments.
The 620 HC-L combines higher lifting capacity with minimal space requirements, offering a maximum lifting capacity of up to 36 tonnes in two-fall operation, and its Load-Plus function can increase lifting capacity by up to 76% under specific load charts.
An agreement was reached at Bauma 2025 in Munich, Germany, making Bennetts Cranes the first global owner of the 620 HC-L series, demonstrating confidence in Liebherr's quality and innovation. Tracey Pockett, Director of Bennetts Cranes, stated that the investment in the 620 HC-L reflects a commitment to expanding the large-tonnage tower crane fleet, providing the lifting capacity needed for complex projects and helping customers work safely on sites where space is limited and overreach must be carefully managed. Liebherr's support throughout the process was excellent, from inquiry to manufacturing, with their technicians providing on-site guidance to the Bennetts team during installation.
The 620 HC-L is designed with efficiency, safety, and sustainability in mind. Its intelligent control system monitors available power and adjusts performance accordingly, enabling the crane to operate on mains power in situations where similar models might require a generator, thereby reducing fuel consumption, emissions, and operating costs. The crane's fast and efficient installation process was crucial for this site, which could only accommodate a mobile crane; the trucks carrying the crane were unloaded in a closed lane outside the site. Assembly features include a pin-connected tower system and pre-installed rope reeving, helping to reduce on-site assembly time. In operation, horizontal luffing and micro-motion functions enhance safety and precision, enabling smooth load handling and accurate positioning.
