en.Wedoany.com Reported - On June 24, 2026, the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) formally signed an agreement during London Climate Action Week to join the Apparel and Textile Transformation Initiative (ATTI).

The signing ceremony was held in London on the same day, during an event co-hosted by ATTI and British International Investment (the UK's development finance institution and impact investing arm). Pakistan thus becomes the third country, after Bangladesh and Turkey, to join the ATTI program.

Under the terms of the agreement, ATTI will collaborate with PRGMEA throughout the entire process, covering initial needs assessment, development and implementation of industry-specific transformation plans, and securing necessary financial arrangements. The initiative will also coordinate stakeholder engagement, evaluation, and pilot projects, ultimately ensuring the execution of the transformation plan.

PRGMEA will support the design and delivery of the national chapter and its transformation plan by committing institutional resources, personnel capacity, and member participation. The initial phase of cooperation will include a national launch meeting, attended by representatives from both organizations and other relevant stakeholders, along with a first field visit. A launch technical committee will be established to guide the development and implementation of the national chapter.

Dr. Ayyazuddin, head of PRGMEA's Decarbonization Committee, stated that joining ATTI is a critical step for Pakistan's apparel and textile industry, and the country plans to build on existing successes to expand solutions to the global apparel and textile sector.

ATTI, co-convened by the International Apparel Federation (IAF) and the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF), aims to help manufacturers and their associations develop transformation plans targeting environmental factors such as energy and water use. The initiative was launched during London Climate Action Week in 2025, in collaboration with brands, governments, and other industry players. Olivia Windham Stewart, Director of the ATTI initiative, noted that as one of the world's most important apparel manufacturing and exporting countries, Pakistan's accession strengthens ATTI's mission to reduce fragmentation, coordinate efforts, and accelerate the industry's transition to low-impact production; as one of IAF's most active members and a leading industry association in Pakistan, PRGMEA is uniquely positioned to lead this work.
