en.Wedoany.com Reported - The 300MW/1200MWh Bohe Energy Storage Demonstration Project in Damao Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, commenced construction in May this year in Bayin Hua Gacha, Bayin Obo Sumu, Damao Banner. With a total investment of 1 billion yuan, the project is included in the first batch of new independent energy storage construction projects for 2026 by the Energy Administration of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The project plans to build a 300MW/1200MWh four-hour long-duration independent electrochemical energy storage station, adopting lithium iron phosphate batteries, a string-type architecture, liquid cooling temperature control, and a prefabricated cabin integrated construction plan. It will be equipped with a new 220kV step-up substation, connected to the nearby 500kV Kailinhe Substation via a 220kV line. The station comprises 60 5MW/20MWh energy storage units, configured with two 160MVA main transformers, 720 340kW power conversion systems, and a complete fire protection, temperature control, and energy management system.

At the construction site, vehicles shuttle back and forth, and personnel work in an orderly manner. All functional departments of Damao Banner are fully responsible for land approval, procedure handling, and other support tasks, proactively coordinating to resolve construction element challenges. Project manager Peng Junlong stated that the smooth completion of land procedures has laid a foundation for accelerating the project, and subsequent construction will be scientifically organized to ensure grid connection and commissioning on schedule. The project is planned to be completed and put into operation in September this year. After commissioning, the average annual discharge capacity can reach 420 million kWh, contributing 10 million yuan in local taxes annually and directly reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 239,000 tons per year.
Once completed, the project is intended to serve as an important independent shared energy storage station for the Western Inner Mongolia Power Grid. It will not be exclusively dedicated to a single enterprise but will provide full-scenario grid services to the entire Damao Banner area of Baotou City, surrounding wind and solar new energy bases, and the Western Inner Mongolia Power Grid region. Peng Junlong stated that after operation, the project will support power balance in the Baotou area during peak summer demand, while enhancing new energy consumption capacity and promoting local green energy development.
