en.Wedoany.com Reported - Since 2021, Energy Transfer has been exporting ethane from Nederland, with cumulative exports exceeding 430 million barrels to date. This project indicates that the continued growth in global demand for natural gas liquids (NGL) has driven Energy Transfer's expansion of its Nederland assets. These assets, combined with the company's wellhead-to-water system platform, form a franchise for supplying North American energy to other parts of the world.

As part of these plans, Energy Transfer will also expand the NGL export pipeline from Mont Belvieu to Nederland to serve the increased refrigeration capacity and build two new NGL marine terminals. Energy Transfer expects that the previously announced expansion of refrigerated propane and butane storage tanks in Nederland (with target capacities of 1.2 million barrels and 800,000 barrels, respectively) will be operational in the first half of 2027. These facilities, combined with the company's existing 1.3 million barrels of refrigerated ethane storage, make Nederland the asset portfolio with the largest refrigerated storage capacity for each product among export complexes along the U.S. Gulf Coast.

The expansion project is expected to begin phased operations in 2028. After the completion of the new terminal construction in mid-2029, Nederland's refrigerated NGL export capacity will exceed 1.25 million barrels per day. Combined with the 420,000 barrels per day capacity from the expanded Marcus Hook NGL export facility (expected to be completed in mid-2027), Energy Transfer's total refrigerated NGL export capacity will reach approximately 1.7 million barrels per day.
