Spain's Port of Tenerife Completes First Multi-Truck-to-Ship Supply of 600 MWh LNG

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 10, the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in Spain supplied liquefied natural gas (LNG) to a vessel using multiple tanker trucks simultaneously for the first time. The receiving vessel was the Mercedes Pinto, a high-speed ferry owned by Baleària. The bunkering took place at a dock in the Anaga port area, adding Multi Truck to Ship (MTTS) gas supply to the port's capabilities.
The operation began at approximately 12:30 that day and was carried out by ESK. Two LNG tanker trucks were connected simultaneously to the vessel's fuel system, supplying a total of approximately 600 MWh of LNG, with a total pumping flow rate of 700 liters per minute. Baleària subsequently confirmed that the Mercedes Pinto completed the bunkering via two tanker trucks operating in parallel.
The Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife already had Ship to Ship (STS) LNG bunkering capability. With the addition of MTTS, the port now offers both Truck to Ship (TTS) and MTTS operations, supplying gas to vessels from one or multiple tanker trucks. By supplying gas simultaneously from multiple tanker trucks, MTTS can increase fuel transfer flow rates within a vessel's port call window.
The service provider, ESK, has been engaged in marine LNG bunkering since 2015. Its current services include both Truck to Ship and Multi Truck to Ship modes, and it already provides routine LNG supply services at Spanish ports including Valencia, Sagunto, Barcelona, Huelva, Málaga, Almería, Dénia, Motril, and Bilbao.
The Mercedes Pinto had previously carried out LNG bunkering in the Canary Islands. In June, Baleària and the Port of Las Palmas completed the first truck-to-ship LNG bunkering of a vessel there, with this vessel being the first to receive LNG supply at the Port of Las Palmas. The new milestone on September 10 is the first establishment of MTTS operational capability at the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, rather than the Mercedes Pinto receiving LNG bunkering for the first time.
