On September 9, 2026, Sawgrass announced the supply of LNG to Walker's Cay, Bahamas
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Sawgrass LNG & Power has begun supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Walker's Cay in northern Bahamas to replace diesel power generation. The company announced the news on September 9, 2026. Walker's Cay is a well-known sportfishing destination in the Bahamas and is currently undergoing a large-scale redevelopment led by entrepreneur, philanthropist, and sports enthusiast Carl Allen.

Walker's Cay is adjacent to the protected waters of Walker's Cay National Park and is known for fishing, diving, and its pristine marine environment. As part of the island's modernization, the local power generation fuel has been switched from diesel to LNG to reduce fuel costs, lower emissions, and improve long-term sustainability. The island is being transformed into a destination that combines luxury accommodations, outdoor adventure, and a commitment to environmental protection.
Sawgrass is headquartered in Miami, Florida. The company produces LNG at its Miami liquefaction facility and delivers it via ISO containers, having supplied fuel to resort, utility, and industrial customers in the Bahamas for more than eight years. Sawgrass states that its LNG is lower in cost and produces fewer emissions than diesel, and the delivery process does not require the construction of expensive fixed infrastructure. The company is also the largest exporter of U.S. LNG via ISO containers.
Daniel McLaughlin, President and Chief Commercial Officer of Sawgrass, said that Walker's Cay is one of the most iconic destinations in the Bahamas, and this project reflects the company's work across the Bahamas over nearly a decade, helping resorts and island communities move away from diesel with energy solutions that reduce operating costs, lower emissions, and improve fuel price stability. Carl Allen, owner of Walker's Cay, said that the Sawgrass team understands his vision for the island, and bringing LNG power to Walker's Cay is an important step in the redevelopment process.
Among existing customer projects in the Bahamas, using Sawgrass's LNG has saved 20% to 50% in fuel costs compared with diesel, while emissions have dropped significantly. Sawgrass states that it will continue to help businesses and island communities in the Caribbean reduce fuel costs, improve price predictability, and lower long-term operating expenses through a combination of LNG supply, logistics, and flexible infrastructure.
