en.Wedoany.com Reported - Chile's Minister of Economy and Mining, Daniel Mas, held a meeting with representatives from mining associations in Chañaral, Copiapó, Tierra Amarilla, Diego de Almagro, El Salado, Inca de Oro, Vallenar, and Freirina, aiming to restore and strengthen the promotional role of the National Mining Company (Enami) and improve its management. The meeting took place at the Paipote Training Center and was part of the agenda for the new board of directors' first on-site meeting.

During this meeting, Dual Minister Mas, who also serves as President of the Enami Board of Directors, listened to the concerns of the industry, accompanied by Mining Undersecretary Álvaro González, Enami Executive Vice President Juan Carlos Sáez, and Presidential Regional Representative Sofía Cid. The discussions focused on creating more productive development, advancing the company's modernization process, and the strategic direction the new board needs to establish for the 2026-2030 period.

Dual Minister Mas stated that the field work allowed the team to gather the expectations and concerns of small and medium-sized miners regarding Enami's role. The company has lost its focus in recent years, deviating from its original promotional purpose, and has also faced management issues and accumulated significant debt.

Earlier, some board members, led by Undersecretary González, conducted a technical inspection of the facilities at the Osvaldo Martínez Carvajal plant in El Salado, learning about ongoing projects and the challenges to operational continuity at the company's oldest mine. Undersecretary González noted that it is crucial for Enami's corporate governance to regularly visit the site to directly understand the challenges the plant faces in processing and treating minerals from small-scale mining. The visit to the Salado plant allowed the team to observe operational production performance and gather priorities for discussing strategic objectives at subsequent board meetings, with a focus on facility modernization and strengthening Enami's promotional role.
