en.Wedoany.com Reported - Exmar is advancing a project to convert a large LNG carrier into a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), with the associated regasification module to be delivered by Nord Gas Solutions. The order was signed in the second quarter of this year.

Nord Gas Solutions is a new brand established after German private equity investor Mutares acquired the Wärtsilä Gas Solutions business from Finnish technology company Wärtsilä. The company has not disclosed the specific terms of the contract.
The company stated that it has previously worked closely with Exmar on multiple projects, most of which involved systems for newbuild vessels.
On another front, Dutch partners Gasunie and Vopak recently made a conditional investment decision to extend the operation of the terminal's FSRU-based liquefied natural gas (LNG) import facility at the port of Eemshaven beyond 2027.
The two FSRUs that make up the Eemshaven LNG hub are: the 170,000-cubic-meter "Energos Igloo," owned by Energos Infrastructure, and Exmar's 26,000-cubic-meter barge-type FSRU, "Eemshaven LNG."
In October 2025, Gasunie and Vopak partnered with Exmar to convert a large LNG carrier into an FSRU for deployment at the port's LNG import facility.
Exmar announced in April that it had commenced conversion work on the new FSRU, which will eventually replace the "Energos Igloo."
This conversion aims to support the continued operation of the EemsEnergyTerminal, which will then be configured with two FSRUs both owned and operated by Exmar. Exmar revealed that the terminal will have a total LNG storage capacity of approximately 190,000 cubic meters and a total regasification capacity of 1.35 billion standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), with overall performance expected to improve.
