Peru's Mining Tax Revenue Exceeds $4.4 Billion in First Four Months of 2026

en.Wedoany.com Reported - According to data from the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), Peru's mining tax revenue exceeded 15 billion soles in the first four months of 2026, equivalent to approximately $4.4 billion at the exchange rate on July 2, 2026, reflecting the important role of mining activities in supporting economic and social development.

During the same period, the mining sector created an average of over 278,000 direct jobs, reaching a record level; mining executed investments exceeded $2.051 billion, a 43.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

In addition, funds transferred through channels such as mining canon, mining royalties, and mining rights maintenance fees and penalties exceeded 4.121 billion soles (over $1.2 billion), supporting infrastructure, public services, and development projects.

Gaby Julca Cumbicus, Vice Minister of Mines at the Ministry of Energy and Mines, released the above data while announcing the opening of the 15th Latin American Tunnel and Underground Works Conference (Tunnel Mining 2026). She stated that the event is a valuable opportunity to share progress, analyze challenges, and learn about best practices currently transforming underground project development in the region.

Julca noted that Peru currently has a mining investment project portfolio consisting of 66 projects, with investments exceeding $64 billion, along with an exploration project portfolio valued at $757 million, indicating strong growth in Peru's mining sector in the coming years.

She emphasized that Peru, leveraging its geological potential and production capacity, has consolidated its position as one of the world's leading mining players. At the conference opening, speeches were also delivered by Conference President Juan José Herrera and Paolo Andrés Alzamora, Executive President of the Geological, Mining and Metallurgical Institute of Peru (Ingemmet). The conference was held in Lima from July 1 to 2, attracting domestic and international experts, contractors, investors, and academics.
