en.Wedoany.com Reported - Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has completed the 2.2 km Sitafalmandi–Lallaguda chord project in Hyderabad, which has received approval from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) for passenger and freight operations. This enhances operational efficiency and railway connectivity under the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) Phase II project for the South Central Railway.

RVNL completes Sitafalmandi-Lallaguda railway link in Hyderabad

By integrating the Lallaguda marshalling yard with Sitafalmandi A and B signal cabins, the chord eliminates long-standing operational bottlenecks, providing direct connectivity to the Kazipet, Nizamabad, and Bengaluru (via Kacheguda) routes. The project is expected to ease congestion at Secunderabad junction, improve train punctuality, increase line capacity, and reduce travel time for both passenger and freight services.

The project involved installing 19 new turnouts and crossings, dismantling five existing ones, and undertaking a major upgrade of signaling and interlocking systems to ensure safe and efficient train operations. The CRS inspected the section on July 2, 2026, and confirmed the line's operational readiness following successful speed trials. RVNL Chairman and Managing Director Saleem Ahmad stated that the successful completion of the project reflects the company's commitment to delivering complex railway infrastructure to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen the Indian railway network.
