en.Wedoany.com Reported - Guhring has launched the new SC-TM-Z SP high-performance full-profile thread milling cutter, which completes the entire thread machining in just two revolutions, significantly shortening the machining cycle and elevating production efficiency to a new level. This new product release is based on one of the industry's most extensive thread milling product ranges.

Chris Bush, National Sales Manager of Guhring UK, stated that the series covers almost all thread machining needs of modern machine shops, ranging from single-pitch thread mills and micro thread mills to all-in-one tools that combine drilling, chamfering, and thread milling. The SC-TM-Z SP is now the latest addition to the series, available in metric and metric fine thread specifications from M3 to M20, with plans to expand to match Guhring's broader thread milling product line.

As part of Guhring's SC-Line series, this full-profile thread milling cutter sets a new performance benchmark for the series. Its core lies in a staggered-tooth, variable-pitch design. Bush explained that this design reduces surface contact, radial forces, and pushing forces. Due to the reduction in radial load and pushing forces, a spring pass operation is no longer required. This significantly reduces vibration, enabling manufacturers to machine at higher speeds and greater feed rates.

The performance improvement stems from a patent-pending flute geometry, which employs uneven division and a helical design to suppress vibration. The irregular tooth arrangement reduces radial forces, improving dimensional accuracy and process reliability, collectively achieving smooth cutting action and low cutting forces, thereby enhancing thread quality. As a typical example of productivity improvement, when milling an M10 thread to a depth of 2.5 times the diameter in an ST52 carbon steel bearing housing, the SC-TM-Z SP operates at 120 m/min and 0.075 mm/tooth, reducing machining time per thread by 55% compared to competitor tools. Additionally, its geometry extends tool life by 17%, from 700 parts to 820 parts.

Guhring expands thread milling product range

Durability stems from a combination of Guhring's high-quality carbide grades, the new Sirius coating, and the tool geometry. Bush added that versatile use across all materials ensures low wear, resulting in higher tool life. Suitable for a variety of materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and heat-resistant alloys, the tool maintains precise dimensions for longer, delays tool radius correction, and sustains process reliability, with thread depths up to 2.5 times the diameter. To simplify the adoption process, Guhring offers free online programming via its CNC Guhro ThreadMill generator, supporting Siemens, Heidenhain, FANUC, Mazatrol, and Hurco control systems. For shops transitioning from tapping to thread milling, the process also offers inherent safety: if a thread mill breaks, simply replace it and re-cut the thread, without worrying about EDM removal of broken taps.
