en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) released its latest gas inquiry report, stating that the east coast gas market is expected to have sufficient supply in the fourth quarter of 2026, but long-term demand will require further investment to be met.
The ACCC noted in the report that if liquefied natural gas (LNG) producers export all uncontracted gas, the east coast market could face a gas shortage in the second and third quarters of 2027.
Specific data shows that if LNG producers export all uncontracted gas, the east coast market is expected to have a supply surplus of 13 petajoules in the fourth quarter of 2026. The regulator stated that supply is also expected to be sufficient in the first and fourth quarters of 2027.
ACCC Commissioner Anna Brakey said that production growth in the coming quarters could be used to fill storage facilities before demand rises next winter. She also noted that Queensland LNG producers and their affiliates control 84% of commercially viable gas resources, and investment from these companies will be key to increasing supply.
