en.Wedoany.com Reported - Digital Realty has welcomed its first telecom operator, Colt Technology Services, to its newest data center in Barcelona, BCN1, where the latter has deployed 400G capacity network connectivity.

By activating a Point of Presence (PoP) at BCN1, Colt ensures customers can access the network from day one of the facility's operation. This PoP extends Colt's pan-European and global backbone to BCN1, offering fiber and IP services with bandwidth up to 400G, primarily targeting global content networks, enterprises, and strategic alliance partners requiring high-capacity connectivity and secure cloud access. Early network availability enables tenants to establish services immediately without waiting for telecom infrastructure to be in place.

Joan Monraba, Country Manager for Spain at Colt Technology Services, stated that Barcelona is rapidly becoming one of Europe's key digital hubs, and early connection to BCN1 reflects a commitment to meeting growing demand; being the first telecom operator to activate services at the facility demonstrates a commitment to Spain's digital future, providing a full portfolio of 400G capacity from day one to give customers immediate access to world-class connectivity, thereby driving growth, innovation, and international reach at a location where Mediterranean submarine cables connect to Europe's digital heart. BCN1 is positioned as a major interconnection point linking Mediterranean submarine cable systems with Europe's FLAP markets (Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, and Paris), and its geographic location offers organizations an alternative route into major European networks while helping to avoid congestion associated with more established hubs. By integrating BCN1 into its pan-European backbone, Colt is expanding the options available to customers operating in the Iberian Peninsula and beyond.

Fabrice Coquio, Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Digital Realty's Mediterranean region in Europe, welcomed Colt as the first telecom operator to join BCN1, noting that its presence during the pre-launch phase is a vote of confidence in the facility's strategic importance and the Barcelona market; BCN1 is designed to be a connectivity cornerstone in the Mediterranean, and having a partner like Colt with extensive pan-European coverage and 400G capabilities ensures that mutual customers have the world-class infrastructure needed for innovation and growth from the moment they cross the threshold. Barcelona has become one of Spain's fastest-growing data center markets, with international connectivity, hyperscale investments, and new developments all contributing to the city's growing role as a gateway between the Mediterranean and the rest of Europe. Attracting operators before BCN1's official opening is a key part of Digital Realty's connectivity strategy. Paula Cogan, Head and Managing Director of Digital Realty EMEA, stated that when BCN1 was announced, the importance of Barcelona as a Mediterranean connectivity hub was highlighted, and seeing Colt become the first telecom operator to go live is a testament to that vision becoming reality; connectivity is at the core of digital transformation, and providing high-performance, 400G-ready connectivity from day one helps lay a solid foundation for customer growth, innovation, and expansion. With operator infrastructure now in place, customers joining BCN1 will be able to immediately access high-capacity connectivity when the facility begins operations.
