en.Wedoany.com Reported - Norwegian company Over Easy Solar has deployed the country's first commercial vertical photovoltaic installation on the roof of the Science World museum in Vancouver, Canada. The 19.5 kW system is monitored by utility BC Hydro to assess the potential for vertical PV systems in the region.

The installation is part of a C$39 million (approximately US$27.4 million) overall renovation of the Science World museum, which also includes dome insulation, air-source heat pumps, and electric chillers. Through all clean technology upgrades, the museum expects to reduce energy consumption by 42%. Over Easy Solar originally developed vertical PV systems to address the specific needs of regions with heavy snowfall, such as Norway—where traditional tilted solar panels are prone to snow accumulation, while vertical installation prevents snow buildup and improves winter power generation performance.

The 19.5 kW system is distributed across three arrays, comprising 76 of Over Easy Solar's latest vertical PV units, the XM-3, paired with ST125 bases designed for gravel roofs and heavy snow areas. According to pv magazine, Rob Baxter, co-founder of installer VREC Solar, stated that for flat roofs with limited load-bearing capacity, where ballasted or penetrating fixation solutions were previously difficult to implement, the vertical system is a perfect solution and effectively avoids snow shading issues.

According to pv magazine's Patrick Jowett, Over Easy Solar entered the U.S. market in April, completing a pilot installation in New York. That same month, the company released data from a one-year study showing that its vertical bifacial PV system outperformed traditional tilted monofacial rooftop PV systems in annual power generation performance in the UK.
