en.Wedoany.com Reported - Drydocks World has completed the recycling of an Aframax vessel owned by APT Global Marine at its Dubai facility, recovering over 20,000 tons of steel, machinery, and other materials for sustainable reuse.

This project marks a significant milestone in establishing the UAE as a regional hub for responsible ship recycling.

It is one of the most complex projects of its kind in the region, involving the dismantling of an Aframax vessel. The ship arrived with severe fire damage, over 1,000 tons of hardened cargo residue, and approximately 2,500 tons of fuel oil residue, requiring detailed engineering assessments, environmental controls, and specialized dismantling procedures throughout the operation.

The project was completed within 120 days. Drydocks World safely removed and processed approximately 14,500 tons of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, 3,500 tons of machinery, piping, and cables, as well as hazardous materials and hydrocarbon residues requiring specialized handling.

Capt. Rado Antolovic, CEO of Drydocks World, stated: "The successful completion of this complex project demonstrates the advanced engineering, safety, and environmental capabilities already in place in Dubai and the UAE to support large-scale responsible green ship recycling, while also supporting sustainable industrial growth. Recovering over 20,000 tons of materials through a single project also highlights the important role of ship recycling in advancing the circular economy within the maritime sector. When a ship reaches the end of its operational life, the industry has a responsibility to ensure that valuable resources are recovered safely, efficiently, and to the highest environmental standards."

This project builds on Drydocks World's approval as a compliant green ship recycling facility under UAE ship recycling regulations and reinforces its ambition to expand its market share in global ship recycling growth. The project also brought together specialized expertise in logistics, engineering, project management, and recycling operations.

The successful completion of one of Drydocks World's most complex ship recycling projects showcases the UAE's growing capacity to support responsible ship recycling and sustainable end-of-life vessel management. As more ships approach the end of their operational lives and environmental regulations evolve, global demand for responsible ship recycling solutions is expected to grow. This project is part of Drydocks World's broader circular economy strategy, which focuses on maximizing resource efficiency across its operations and project portfolio.
