en.Wedoany.com Reported - Large-scale excavation has commenced at four underground stations on the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension in Toronto.

Crews are currently working at the four station sites at the intersections of Eglinton Avenue West with Martin Grove Road, Kipling Avenue, Islington Avenue, and Royal York Road. According to a project announcement, the current work primarily involves constructing the station boxes, the underground structures that form the main body of the stations.

The extension plans a total of seven stations along Eglinton Avenue West, with the remaining three stations located at Jane Street, Scarlett Road, and Renforth Drive.

Regarding tunneling, crews recently completed excavation of the first of two 500-meter tunnels from Pearen Park to Mount Dennis Station.

The announcement added that workers have completed 85% of the pier construction supporting the 1.5-kilometer elevated guideway and are advancing the construction of the bridge deck on which trains will run.

Once completed, the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension will extend the Eglinton Crosstown LRT 9.2 kilometers westward, creating a nearly 30-kilometer rapid transit line along Eglinton Avenue, connecting Scarborough, Midtown Toronto, and Mississauga.

The Government of Canada is supporting the construction of this extension with an investment of approximately CAD 1.87 billion. This project is part of the Province of Ontario’s CAD 70 billion transportation plan.
