COSCO Shipping Bulk Orders New Ammonia and Methanol-Ready Ships

Wedoany.com Report-May 15, COSCO Shipping Bulk, a subsidiary of COSCO Shipping, has ordered two 209,800 dwt ammonia and methanol-ready bulk carriers from Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding in Qingdao, China, for delivery in 2027. The contract price remains undisclosed. These vessels support sustainable shipping by using low-emission fuels.

In December 2024, COSCO Shipping Bulk ordered three firm and five optional 210,000 dwt methanol and ammonia-ready bulk carriers at $93 million each. These 300-meter-long, 50-meter-wide Newcastle-type ships feature energy-saving technologies like front guide wheels, vortex-eliminating fins, and shaft generators, with deliveries planned for 2027–2028.

On April 23, 2025, Qingdao Beihai delivered a 210,000 dwt ammonia-ready bulk carrier, Mineral Sverige, to CMB.TECH in Belgium. The 300-meter vessel, meeting IMO Tier III standards, reduces nitrogen oxide emissions by over 75% and is the seventh ship delivered by Beihai in 2025.
