en.Wedoany.com Reported - Siemens Mobility is collaborating with Motiva to deploy its Trainguard MT Communications-Based Train Control system on the extension of São Paulo Metro Line 4-Yellow, utilizing fully driverless operation technology to support urban rail transit infrastructure expansion.

The signaling system, based on Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology, achieves Grade of Automation 4 (GoA4), enabling fully unattended train operation. The project scope includes installation of electronic interlocking, operational monitoring, and advanced telecommunications systems. The interlocking framework originates from Germany, CBTC components from France, telecommunications systems from Italy, with final system integration completed in Brazil. Six additional trains will be equipped with this CBTC technology to ensure seamless operation within the existing network.

The infrastructure extension adds 3.3 kilometers of twin-track tunnel to the existing 12.8-kilometer line, bringing the total length of Line 4-Yellow to 16.1 kilometers. The extension will connect the current terminal station Vila Sonia-Professora Elisabeth Tenreiro to the new terminal station Taboao da Serra, with an additional station, Chacara do Jockey, added along the route. This marks the first time a São Paulo metro station will be located outside the city's direct jurisdiction. The integration of automated railway signaling technology enables train headways of 90 seconds, with system availability maintained at nearly 100%.

Siemens Mobility to digitalize São Paulo Metro Line 4-Yellow extension

The Line 4-Yellow extension increases system capacity to accommodate an additional 110,000 passengers daily, based on its current daily ridership of 740,000. The line offers an estimated travel time of 26 minutes from Estacao da Luz station to the Taboao da Serra terminal. The automated transportation infrastructure serves residential and commercial areas of the Taboao da Serra region, home to approximately 280,000 residents, contributing to the structural efficiency of the metropolitan area's transportation network, which serves over 12 million residents.
