The UAE's national passenger railway service officially commenced trial operations on June 30, 2026. The first line connects Mohammed bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi with Al Hilal City in Fujairah, with a total journey time of approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. Currently, three trains operate daily in each direction, representing the initial operational phase.

According to the plan, the railway project will be implemented in phases: Dubai Station and Al Dhaid Station are expected to begin operations on September 30, while Sharjah Station is scheduled to open on March 30, 2027. Once fully operational, Etihad Rail will connect all seven emirates, integrate with other public transport systems, and transport approximately 36.5 million passengers annually.
