en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 16, CSSC Beihai Shipbuilding, CSSC Trading, jointly with ICBC Financial Leasing and COSCO Shipping Bulk, signed a construction contract for four 210,000 DWT Newcastlemax bulk carriers in Qingdao. This multi-party collaboration is regarded as a pragmatic measure to implement national strategies such as building a maritime power and promoting the internationalization of the renminbi along the industrial chain, setting a new benchmark for industrial chain synergy in the green large bulk carrier sector.

The 210,000 DWT Newcastlemax bulk carrier signed this time is Beihai Shipbuilding's main vessel type, with an overall length of 299.90 meters, a beam of 50.00 meters, a depth of 26.30 meters, and a structural draft of 18.50 meters, capable of meeting global dry bulk cargo ocean transportation needs. The vessel is designed with a methanol and ammonia fuel dual-ready scheme, adaptable to future clean energy iterations, while complying with the International Maritime Organization's Tier III emission standards and the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase 3 requirements.

This marks the second collaboration between COSCO Shipping Bulk and Beihai Shipbuilding since 2026. On January 13 this year, the two parties signed orders for three 210,000 DWT bulk carriers of the same model, with delivery expected in the second quarter of 2029. Additionally, in early July, COSCO Shipping Development invested in the construction of two 210,000 DWT methanol and ammonia dual-fuel ready dry cargo vessels at Beihai Shipbuilding, with a unit price of 610 million yuan and a delivery cycle from November 2029 to June 2030.

At the signing ceremony, attendees included Zhang Bao, President of ICBC Financial Leasing; Lin Feng, Chief Accountant of COSCO Shipping Bulk; Xu She, Director of the Financial and Accounting Department of China State Shipbuilding Corporation; Zhao Lina, Chief Accountant of CSSC Trading; and Ou Chuanjie, Chairman of Beihai Shipbuilding. Representatives from all parties expressed their commitment to deepening cooperation and promoting the upgrading of the shipping and shipbuilding industry.

Beihai Shipbuilding has maintained a long-term cooperative relationship with COSCO Shipping Bulk. In December 2025, COSCO Shipping Group and China State Shipbuilding Corporation completed a centralized signing of 87 newbuilding projects, of which Beihai Shipbuilding secured orders for 16 210,000 DWT Newcastlemax bulk carriers.

According to Clarksons data, as of the end of the first half of 2026, Beihai Shipbuilding held orders for nearly 100 vessels, totaling 22 million deadweight tons, with its order book for 210,000 DWT large bulk carriers ranking first among global single shipyards. Excluding the latest signed orders, Beihai Shipbuilding currently has 86 vessels on order, totaling 20.7 million deadweight tons, covering 77 bulk carriers and 9 oil tankers, with delivery schedules extending to 2030. In the segment of large bulk carriers of 100,000 DWT and above, Beihai Shipbuilding holds orders for 77 vessels, totaling 18.3 million deadweight tons.

The finalization of these four green bulk carrier orders further enhances the full industrial chain synergy system encompassing shipbuilding, shipping finance, and ocean transportation. All parties stated that they will leverage their respective industrial, capital, and market advantages to build a long-term and stable cooperative ecosystem, enhancing China's independent construction capability for large high-end vessels and the level of the domestic shipping industry chain.
