Iraqi Prime Minister Signs 48 Oil and Pipeline Agreements During US Visit

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi began an official visit to the United States on July 14, 2026, and on July 17, at the US-Iraq Business Summit held by the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington, witnessed the signing of 48 agreements, memoranda of understanding, and partnership declarations between Iraq and US public and private sectors. The total value of these agreements and cooperation projects is estimated to exceed $60 billion, covering multiple sectors including energy, healthcare, and technology.

Iraq, having suffered revenue losses due to oil export disruptions caused by the war in the Middle East, is urgently seeking economic stimulus to restore growth.

Among the 48 agreements signed, cooperation in the oil sector holds a central position. Iraq's Ministry of Oil and Ministry of Electricity have reached multiple cooperation agreements with US companies such as ExxonMobil, KBR, GE Vernova, Shell, and Halliburton. Particularly noteworthy are several deals involving the construction of a major crude oil pipeline between Iraq and Syria. The project plans to rebuild the oil pipeline extending from Kirkuk in northern Iraq to the Syrian Mediterranean port of Banias, with an initial design capacity of 2 million barrels per day.

The 48 agreements signed in Washington also include a cooperation agreement between Iraq and satellite communications company Starlink, which plans to introduce satellite internet services to Iraq.
