Google to Install Developer Verifier on Android Devices Starting September 30

Scammers often call victims under the pretext of criminal cases or relatives in distress, urging them to disable device protection measures and install malicious APKs. In a state of panic, users frequently bypass standard warnings. Google states that this service aims to combat such scams by adding installation barriers to protect users.

Android Developer Verifier will check whether the installed app is registered under a confirmed developer. Developers must pass identity verification and provide legal entity information to Google to obtain this status. While this does not guarantee absolute program safety, it links the program to a specific individual or company.

To install apps from unconfirmed developers, users must enable developer mode, confirm they are not under duress, restart the phone, wait 24 hours, and re-login via PIN or biometric authentication. After 24 hours, emergency bank employees typically lose interest.

Android Developer Verifier is distributed via Google system updates and cannot be declined for download. Currently, the app is inactive on most user devices. The new requirements will take effect on September 30 in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand, with a global rollout planned for 2027 and beyond.

Users can currently delete the service, but it is uncertain whether it will reappear with the next update, or whether deletion helps bypass checks. For experienced users, installation via ADB is unrestricted and does not require a 24-hour wait. Custom firmware without Google services can also reject the new system.
