L-Glufosinate-ammonium is a highly efficient isomer of glufosinate-ammonium, characterized by high activity, low dosage, and low residue. It is gradually replacing traditional herbicides such as paraquat, becoming the mainstream upgrade direction in this field. Currently, China's L-glufosinate-ammonium production capacity is mainly concentrated in a few enterprises, with chemical synthesis as the primary production method, which faces issues such as numerous reaction steps, many by-products, and significant environmental pressure. Bio-enzymatic synthesis, as a green production process, has not yet achieved large-scale industrial application.
Shandong Wanhao Crop Science Co., Ltd. plans to renovate existing idle workshops within the plant area, procure new production equipment including fermenters, feed tanks, defoaming tanks, centrifuges, formulation kettles, and conversion kettles, and equip corresponding environmental protection facilities. Emergency basins and fire water tanks will rely on existing facilities. Upon completion, the project will achieve an annual production capacity of 20,000 tons of L-glufosinate-ammonium technical material. The project is constructed in phases: Phase I involves the construction of 16,000 t/a pesticide formulation blending production equipment and supporting facilities, achieving an annual output of 16,000 tons of pesticide formulations. Phase I obtained the EIA approval (Jishanghuan Report Form [2025] No. 44) from the Shanghe Branch of Jinan Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment on November 24, 2025. The production units are under construction and have not yet been accepted. Phase II, the subject of this EIA, involves the construction of 20,000 t/a L-glufosinate-ammonium technical material production equipment and supporting facilities.
The project is named the 36,000 t/a Bio-enzymatic Synthesis of L-Glufosinate-ammonium Technical Material and Formulation Blending Capacity Expansion Project (Phase II) of Shandong Wanhao Crop Science Co., Ltd. The construction unit is Shandong Wanhao Crop Science Co., Ltd., and the construction site is located within the existing plant area at No. 166 Liyuan Street, Yuhuangmiao Town, Shanghe County, Jinan City, Shandong Province. The total project investment is 61.1 million yuan, including environmental protection investment of 2 million yuan, accounting for 3.3% of the total investment. The project will employ 20 workers, operating on a three-shift system with 8 hours per shift, 333 working days per year, totaling 8,000 hours per year. The project covers an area of approximately 3,000 square meters, utilizing existing idle workshops. It is expected to be completed and put into operation in September 2026.
