en.Wedoany.com Reported - Spanish renewable energy company MASPV has signed two long-term power purchase agreements for the Estanzuela solar-plus-storage project in Guatemala. The project has a planned installed capacity of 130 MWp and is equipped with a 100 MWh battery energy storage system.
Both PPAs have a term of 15 years, signed with Empresa Eléctrica de Guatemala (EEGSA) and Distribuidora de Electricidad de Oriente (Deorsa), respectively. To complete the contract phase after winning the bid, the company also deposited a $2.5 million bank guarantee.
Located in the department of Zacapa, the Estanzuela project has a total investment of over $100 million. MASPV plans to bring it into operation by 2029 and claims it will be the largest solar-plus-battery storage plant in Central America.

According to the design plan, part of the solar power will be directly injected into the grid, while another portion will be stored and released during periods without solar radiation or peak electricity demand. The company has not disclosed the power rating of the battery system, so its discharge duration cannot yet be determined.
The project was awarded in the public tender PEG-5-2025. This tender aims to contract a total of up to 1,400 MW of guaranteed capacity and associated electricity for EEGSA, Deorsa, and Distribuidora de Electricidad de Occidente (Deocsa), with a maximum term of 15 years, starting power supply in 2030.
The Estanzuela award result was announced at the end of March. In the same tender, Spanish company Ecoener secured contracts for the Cocales solar plant and the La Hulera solar plant. The former has a capacity of 140 MWp with 20 MW/80 MWh battery storage; the latter has a capacity of 60 MWp with 10 MW/40 MWh battery storage.
MASPV operates in ten countries, including Spain, China, and Latin American markets such as Panama, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic.
