en.Wedoany.com Reported - A new district cooling plant with a capacity of 23,400 refrigeration tons (RT) will be built in Dubai's Al Sufouh 2 area. The plant is being constructed by Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower).

This move is part of Empower's broader expansion strategy, aimed at addressing Dubai's rapid urban growth and the demand for sustainable district cooling services. Empower stated that construction has commenced as planned under the direct supervision of its internal project team, with completion expected in the third quarter of 2027.
The new plant will enhance Empower's cooling capacity, expand its district cooling network in Dubai, and serve a range of mixed-use buildings, including commercial buildings, office towers, hotels, residential complexes, hospitality facilities, educational institutions, and other developments. One of the key developments it will serve is the Innovation Hub, a significant landmark in the Al Sufouh area.
The plant will utilize the latest district cooling technologies, including Thermal Energy Storage (TES) and the use of Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE). These technologies are expected to help conserve natural resources, improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and support the climate neutrality goals of the UAE and Dubai.
HE Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, stated that Dubai is supporting urban and economic growth by developing advanced infrastructure, while simultaneously enhancing quality of life and strengthening the emirate's competitiveness. He noted that investment in sustainable infrastructure remains a key pillar of Dubai's comprehensive development agenda and its ambition to become a global model for smart and sustainable cities.
Bin Shafar said that Empower continues to implement its expansion strategy through a proactive approach, focusing on forecasting future demand, building new plants, expanding cooling capacity, and developing infrastructure in line with Dubai's growth. The company is committed to ensuring that all projects are designed according to the highest international standards of operational efficiency, sustainability, and reliability to meet customers' long-term needs. The Al Sufouh 2 plant represents a new strategic milestone in Empower's growth journey, reflecting its ongoing investment in district cooling technology. The company is also committed to incorporating the latest innovations and technologies across all its facilities to enhance energy and water efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, support green building standards, and advance the UAE's net-zero and green economy goals.
