en.Wedoany.com Reported - BorgWarner recently secured a new dual-clutch transmission (DCT) project from a Chinese motorcycle manufacturer, officially entering the field of large-displacement motorcycle and four-wheel vehicle system solutions.

The project is scheduled to begin production in the third quarter of 2027. Under the agreement, BorgWarner will supply integrated DCT systems for motorcycles and four-wheel vehicles with engine displacements exceeding 500 cc, including dual clutches, hydraulic control modules, and clutch control software. This project reflects the growing demand for automatic transmission technology in the motorcycle industry, particularly in the high-end market, where manufacturers are seeking enhanced riding quality and efficiency.
BorgWarner stated that its DCT system offers smoother gear shifts and higher transmission efficiency compared to traditional automated manual transmissions (AMT) and continuously variable transmissions (CVT). The company believes this technology is well-suited for large motorcycles, where performance and rider comfort are becoming key purchasing factors. The integrated hardware and software package also supports customers in achieving product differentiation in both domestic and export markets.
Henk Vanthournout, Vice President and President General Manager of Drivetrain and Morse Systems at BorgWarner, noted that the evolution of passenger car transmission technology is influencing the motorcycle sector, and the company, leveraging its experience in DCT systems and system integration, is capable of developing advanced automatic transmission solutions for motorcycles.
To date, BorgWarner has supplied nearly 10 million passenger car dual-clutch transmissions globally, laying the foundation for its expansion into motorcycle applications. The latest project also marks the company's shift from supplying individual components to delivering complete transmission systems integrating hardware and software. BorgWarner stated that the integrated solution will help Chinese customers grow in the domestic market while expanding into international markets such as Europe and North America. This project aligns with the company's strategic direction of providing mobility technologies that improve vehicle performance and efficiency, while supporting evolving customer needs in the global automotive market.
