Wedoany.com Report-May 28, Canada-based oil and gas company Valeura Energy has concluded a multi-well drilling campaign on Block B5/27 in the Gulf of Thailand, utilizing the Mist jack-up rig provided by Borr Drilling. The block includes the Jasmine and Ban Yen oil fields, where the company holds 100% operational interest. These fields produce light, sweet crude oil from multiple stacked channel sand reservoirs of Miocene age, with total 2P reserves estimated at 16.8 million barrels (gross).
The campaign aimed to maintain stable production and assess future development opportunities. The Jasmine and Ban Yen fields are supported by infrastructure including pipelines, six topside facilities for oil separation and water treatment, and a leased FPSO vessel.
Valeura President and CEO Sean Guest stated: “Block B5/27 is a prime example of how with ongoing drilling activity we can continue to commercialise new accumulations to maintain a stable and predictable stream of cash flow from each of our Gulf of Thailand assets.” He added: “We expect to demonstrate further reserves adds at our next year-end reserves evaluation.”
Three wells were drilled from the Ban Yen A platform. BYA-35ST1 targeted multiple reservoirs and was completed for production from six sand layers, with total oil pay approximately double pre-drill expectations. BYA-42 targeted the 50 sands reservoir and appraised two additional shallower intervals, currently under evaluation. BYA-41, drilled for appraisal purposes, encountered a deeper-than-expected oil-water contact but was not completed due to poor reservoir development; data from the well will be used for future planning.
At the Jasmine C platform, two development wells were completed. Well C-30ST1H was drilled horizontally in the 400 sand and completed using an autonomous inflow control device, allowing production from a mixed gas/oil zone. Well C-39 reached three target intervals and was completed as a multi-zone producer, with the 330 interval now online.
Two additional development wells, D-44 and D-45, were drilled at the Jasmine D platform. D-44 accessed primary targets (500 and 600 sands) and confirmed potential in five secondary zones. D-45 encountered oil in all three main targets (250, 245, and 160 sands) and in a secondary 680 sand, which may be developed later.
An exploration well at the Ratree prospect intersected the intended reservoirs but encountered only trace hydrocarbons. Valeura reported that migration of oil to the structure was limited. Other exploration opportunities in the block are under evaluation.
The campaign was completed safely, within budget, and on schedule. Production levels remain consistent with Q1 2025, helping offset natural declines. The Mist rig is now moving to the Nong Yao field, where Valeura plans to drill approximately ten additional development wells.
In March, the same rig completed a five-well campaign at the Manora field in license G1/48, which began in late November 2024.
