en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Valencia, Spain, has approved its updated environmental and energy policy, which aligns with the port's 2030 Strategic Plan and its Net Zero Plan.

The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Valencia approved an updated environmental and energy policy.

The new policy strengthens Valenciaport's decarbonization commitments and extends the scope of sustainability obligations from the port's own internal operations to all companies operating within the public areas managed by the Port Authority, while also covering customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders in the port and logistics industry.

The policy framework is built around a series of strategic commitments, including addressing climate change through decarbonization, supporting the energy transition, promoting the circular economy, protecting biodiversity, and regularly assessing the interactions between port activities, products, and services and the environment in order to identify and manage related risks.

At the operational level, the policy also covers the prevention and minimization of environmental impacts, employee training and information provision, carbon footprint accounting, and promoting the participation of all stakeholders in the energy transition of the port system.

As a complementary decision, the Board authorized the President of the Port Authority to initiate the tendering procedure for the construction of a new substation. The project has a budget of €15.6 million, with the European Commission co-financing it through the Connecting Europe Facility program.

Once the new substation is completed, the port's electrical capacity will double, supporting the port's broader electrification and decarbonization goals, while also being regarded as a significant step toward enhancing operational reliability and environmental sustainability.
