Wedoany.com Report-May 30, Somerset International has partnered with Omnipro to introduce sustainable mining technologies in Brazil, a leading global iron ore producer. The collaboration aims to promote environmentally responsible solutions across Brazil’s mining industry, enhancing efficiency and sustainability.

The alliance will facilitate the introduction of Somerset’s patented tailings dewatering and mineral recovery systems in Brazil.

Rodrigo Gouveia, Somerset International’s executive vice-president of business development, stated: “This partnership with Omnipro significantly strengthens our presence in Brazil and supports our broader expansion across Latin America. Their deep industry insight and strong local relationships position us to deliver even greater value to Brazilian mining companies committed to sustainable growth.” The alliance will facilitate the deployment of Somerset’s patented tailings dewatering and mineral recovery systems in Brazil.

Omnipro will contribute its local expertise to identify business opportunities, provide market intelligence, and connect with key industry stakeholders. Vittorio Capparelli, Omnipro’s director, commented: “We are very excited about this partnership with Somerset and have great confidence in the results we will achieve. It also represents a major step forward for our company in the way we present ourselves in the mining market, bringing innovative solutions to our customers.” The partnership strengthens both companies’ roles in advancing sustainable mining practices.

In January 2025, Brazil announced $815 million (5.01 billion reais) in financing for strategic mineral projects, led by BNDES and Finep, to bolster its position as a supplier of critical raw materials and develop high-value metal products. This includes 5 billion reais in credit lines and equity investments to support mining companies, aligning with the Somerset-Omnipro partnership’s focus on sustainability.

Additionally, Vale launched the Capanema Maximisation Project in December 2024 within its Mariana Operational Complex in Minas Gerais. The initiative is expected to increase Vale’s iron ore production by approximately 15 million tonnes per annum, targeting 340–360 million tonnes per annum by 2026. The project employs natural moisture processing, reducing water use and eliminating tailings dams, contributing to environmentally friendly mining practices in Brazil. These efforts support domestic production and economic growth without altering consumption or trade dynamics.
