Wedoany.com Report-Jun 3, During a meeting between Ukrainian Minister of Agricultural Policy Vitaliy Koval and Albanian Ambassador Ernal Filo, both parties expressed interest in enhancing bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector. The talks highlighted the mutual benefits of increased trade in food products between Ukraine and Albania.

Ambassador Filo conveyed Albania’s interest in importing Ukrainian meat and processed products, driven by growing domestic demand linked to an increase in tourism. In return, Albania offered to export seasonal vegetables to Ukraine during the off-season period, particularly from February to May, when Ukrainian vegetable production typically declines.

Minister Koval noted that in 2025, Ukraine is prioritizing the development of livestock farming. This includes an emphasis on cattle production, red meat, and processed food products. Albania's interest aligns with this national strategy, providing an opportunity for both countries to meet economic and supply needs through agricultural exchange.

The discussion also addressed the broader context of economic cooperation. Agriculture is a key contributor to GDP and employment in both countries. Strengthening trade ties in this sector supports shared goals and reflects their strategic orientation towards European integration, as both Ukraine and Albania hold EU candidate status.

In addition to trade expansion, the two sides considered the possibility of simplifying related procedures to facilitate the exchange of goods. This would help streamline cross-border trade, reduce delays, and encourage more active participation by businesses in both countries.

Koval emphasized the significance of practical cooperation: “We welcome Albania’s interest in Ukrainian agricultural products. Such mutual interest creates a solid foundation for trade development and supports the agricultural economies of both nations.”

Filo responded by confirming Albania's readiness to supply Ukraine with vegetables during periods of reduced domestic production, noting that: “This exchange will benefit producers and consumers in both countries and support seasonal balance in the market.”

The meeting also occurred in the context of ongoing discussions within the European Union regarding agricultural trade arrangements with Ukraine. Different member states have varying interests depending on their production and export capacities. For instance, Poland, with significant grain exports of its own, has not prioritized imports of Ukrainian grain. As new trade agreements between the EU and Ukraine are developed, the importance of reflecting each country's agricultural priorities was acknowledged.

Looking ahead, Ukraine and Albania intend to explore further technical and trade-related cooperation to realize the proposed agricultural exchanges. Future talks will likely focus on establishing clear frameworks for trade operations, including logistics, certification standards, and customs procedures.

The agricultural dialogue between Ukraine and Albania reflects shared priorities and the potential for stable, mutually beneficial trade relations in the coming years.
