en.Wedoany.com Reported - Dana Gas and Naft Al-Hilal have commenced supplying natural gas from the Khor Mor gas field in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to power facilities of the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity in Kirkuk.

Under an agreement signed with the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity last December, the two companies, as joint operators of the Kurdistan Gas Project, will deliver 100 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day from the Khor Mor gas processing plant to the Taza gas power station in Kirkuk, with an initial contract term of one year. This supply will be used to increase electricity production across Iraq and improve related services.

This gas supply is part of the two companies' strategy to expand natural gas sales. The Khor Mor 250 expansion project, which came into operation in October 2025, has increased the capacity of the Khor Mor processing plant by 50% to 750 million standard cubic feet per day, enabling the partners to access new markets through pipelines extending from the Khor Mor plant and provide much-needed natural gas.

Majid Hamid Jafar, CEO of Naft Al-Hilal and Executive Director of the Dana Gas Board, stated that the first gas supply to the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity marks a significant step in the development of the natural gas industry in the Kurdistan Region and responds to the growing electricity demand across Iraq. He expressed gratitude for the continued support of the Kurdistan Regional Government, the local authorities in Sulaymaniyah, and the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity.

Richard Hall, CEO of Dana Gas, stated that the agreement signals the initial results of the company's ongoing expansion strategy. Leveraging the additional capacity from the Khor Mor 250 project, both parties will be able to further strengthen energy cooperation in the Iraqi market, enhance energy security, and support more reliable electricity services.

The Khor Mor gas project provides fuel for more than 80% of electricity production in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and supplies affordable electricity to over 8 million residents in the region and other Iraqi provinces.

To date, cumulative investment in the project has exceeded $4 billion, and operations have created more than 47,000 direct and indirect jobs. The two companies expect this impact to double in the coming years as capacity increases and new projects are launched.
