South Africa's Envision Energy and Sasol Collaborate on Conceptual Design Study for Green Hydrogen System

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 5, Envision Energy announced a partnership with international energy and chemical company Sasol to conduct a conceptual design study for a green hydrogen system at the Sasolburg site in South Africa.

The study will evaluate the integration of renewable energy, energy storage, and electrolyzer technologies at Sasolburg, exploring production pathways for low-carbon fuels and chemicals, with potential applications including e-methanol and sustainable aviation fuel.

Leveraging its expertise in renewable energy, battery energy storage, green hydrogen, and AI-driven energy management, Envision Energy will study the combined operation of renewable power generation, energy storage systems, and electrolyzers to optimize green hydrogen production based on energy availability, market conditions, and operational requirements.

The conceptual design study is expected to be completed within this year and can provide technical and commercial information for future investment decisions. Sasol is evaluating how to utilize its existing industrial capabilities and infrastructure while exploring technologies that could support its energy transition and unlock new commercial prospects.

During the South Africa-China Energy Investment Conference, South Africa's Minister of Electricity and Energy, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, visited Envision Energy's "Zero-Carbon Hydrogen Industrial Park" in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia, and learned about this collaboration project on that occasion.

Kane Xu, Executive Vice President and President of International Products at Envision Energy, stated that green hydrogen will play a key role in driving the transition of hard-to-abate industries and creating sustainable growth pathways. Envision Energy is developing future energy systems with global partners such as Sasol, based on AI-driven energy infrastructure and innovative technologies in renewable energy, energy storage, and green hydrogen. Such systems should be borderless, intelligent, and economically viable to accelerate industrial transformation and bring new development opportunities to global industries and communities.

Danie Cronje, Senior Vice President of Business Development at Sasol, stated that this conceptual design study aims to assess the extent to which the combination of renewable energy, energy storage, and electrolyzer technologies can help Sasolburg achieve cost-competitive green hydrogen production. Combined with Sasol's expertise and existing industrial facilities, both parties can determine how these technologies will support building future low-carbon fuel and chemical value chains.
