Wedoany.com Report-Jun 4, CDWE has successfully completed the installation of pin piles for the 1022MW Hai Long Offshore Wind Farm, located off the coast of Taiwan. The installation work involved a total of 219 pin piles, carried out using the Green Jade heavy lift vessel.

Green Jade, a DP3 vessel, is the first heavy lift ship purpose-built in Taiwan specifically for offshore wind construction. The completion of this stage marks a significant milestone for the Hai Long Offshore Wind Project, which is being jointly developed by Mitsui & Co., Northland Power, and Gentari International Renewables.

The developers issued a joint statement acknowledging the achievement: “The successful completion of pin pile installation wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and expertise of the project team, and the strong support of our partners at CDWE.” They added: “Next, we remain focused on safely and steadily advancing construction to ensure timely grid connection and power generation.”

Hai Long consists of two main phases—Hai Long 2, with an installed capacity of 518MW, and Hai Long 3, delivering an additional 504MW. Together, these phases make up one of the largest offshore wind developments in Taiwan. The project will feature 73 Siemens Gamesa turbines, each rated at 14MW.

The wind farm is expected to be commissioned in 2026 and is set to contribute significantly to Taiwan’s renewable energy capacity. Upon completion, Hai Long will play a major role in supporting Taiwan’s long-term offshore wind power goals and enhancing its energy diversification efforts.

The successful installation of pin piles also highlights the increasing capability of local offshore construction, particularly through CDWE, a joint venture between CSBC Corporation and DEME Offshore. The involvement of Green Jade demonstrates the growing industrial capacity within Taiwan to manage large-scale offshore infrastructure.

With foundation installation complete, the next steps for the Hai Long project will involve jacket foundation placements, turbine installation, and subsea cabling. The project team is expected to continue work throughout 2025, aiming to ensure a smooth transition toward commissioning and grid integration in 2026.

The Hai Long development is considered a benchmark for Taiwan’s offshore wind expansion, combining international experience with local industrial growth. It is anticipated that the project will not only provide renewable energy but also foster job creation and technology development in the region.
