India's New Mangalore Port Ships First 31,500 Tons of Pig Iron

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 8, the New Mangalore Port Authority in India disclosed that the port had shipped its first pig iron export cargo, with 31,500 tons of basic pig iron transported to Kenya aboard the bulk carrier "RESOLUTE BAY." The cargo was supplied by Kirloskar Ferrous Industries, with overseas buyer Stemcor.

This shipment volume aligns with an export order disclosed by Kirloskar Ferrous Industries in June. The order has a base quantity of 30,000 tons, with a permissible fluctuation of ±5%, a total value of approximately $13.51 million, settled on a free-on-board (FOB) basis and supported by a sight letter of credit, with the latest shipment date set for August 15.

The New Mangalore Port is connected to the industrial belt of northern Karnataka via rail and national highways, and this shipment has provided local pig iron producers with an additional seaport option for exports.

Data from the Indian Joint Plant Committee shows that India exported 247,000 tons of pig iron to the United States from April to May 2026, already surpassing the full-year figure of 131,600 tons for fiscal year 2025–2026.
