en.Wedoany.com Reported - Hillhouse Group has appointed asphalt production expert Zander Calderwood to oversee its new asphalt facility, which is set to commence operations later this year at Soutra Mains Quarry in Midlothian, Scotland. The new facility will operate under the name Edinburgh Asphalt.

Edinburgh Asphalt will produce over 50 quality-assured asphalt mixtures, supplying the Edinburgh, Lothians, Scottish Borders, and wider eastern Scotland regions.
Calderwood will be responsible for overseeing asphalt production across Hillhouse Group's five plants, while also leading the operational delivery of the new facility. Having been with the company for 13 years, he previously contributed to the establishment and development of asphalt plants in Cambuslang and Alloa. Calderwood stated that the new facility will complement Hillhouse Group's existing operations and help extend its reach into eastern Scotland. He said the new facility "gives us the opportunity to strengthen relationships with existing customers while supporting new projects in Edinburgh, the Lothians, and the Scottish Borders beyond."
Calderwood joined Hillhouse Group 13 years ago, serving as asphalt plant manager at the company's Cambuslang site before the plant was built. Since then, his experience has encompassed plant construction, upgrades, and commissioning, as well as the development of the company's Alloa facility. Before specializing in asphalt production, his early industry experience also included concrete production, crushing and screening, laboratory testing, and plant maintenance. Calderwood believes this breadth of background laid the foundation for his work in asphalt manufacturing. He said: "I've been fortunate to learn from some of the best people in the industry. Understanding every stage of the process has given me a very solid foundation, something that has stayed with me throughout my career."
Mark Munro, Managing Director of Hillhouse Quarry, said Calderwood's previous experience in commissioning facilities will support this latest project. He noted that as they prepare to open Edinburgh Asphalt, having an experienced leadership team from day one is crucial; Calderwood has already played a key role in successfully delivering new facilities for Hillhouse, and his experience will be invaluable as the group continues to expand its operations across Scotland.
