en.Wedoany.com Reported - Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed that all metro projects in the state be completed within three years from the date of commencement of work. While chairing a meeting of the state cabinet's infrastructure committee, he stated that the expansion in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region will strengthen safe, rapid, and eco-friendly public transport and support future urban development. Currently, the Maharashtra government is accelerating the expansion of the urban rapid transit network.
According to an official statement, the state currently has 174 km of operational metro corridors, 291 km under construction, and 130 km of lines awaiting approval, with detailed project reports being prepared for an additional 87.15 km of new corridors. The state plans to bring over 300 km of new metro lines into operation by 2029-30, bringing the total planned and operational network to 683.53 km, comprising 428.89 km in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, 169.45 km in the Pune Metropolitan Region, and 85.20 km in the Nagpur Metropolitan Region.
The metro projects, with a total value of ₹2.81 trillion (tn), are currently at various stages of implementation. The central government will contribute ₹272.16 billion (27,216 crore), the Maharashtra government will directly fund ₹502.5 billion (50,250 crore), an additional ₹757.3 billion (75,729.62 crore) will be raised through the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, local bodies, and planning agencies, with the remainder financed through government-guaranteed borrowings. These amounts translate to ₹272.16 billion (bn), ₹502.5 billion (bn), and approximately ₹757.30 billion (bn), respectively.
The meeting reviewed the proposed Metro Line 10 in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, a 9.68 km elevated corridor with five stations connecting Mira Gaon and Gaimukh, estimated to cost ₹85 billion (8,500 crore). Fadnavis instructed officials to complete this project within three years. The meeting also reviewed the progress of other proposed metro projects, including lines connecting Anik Depot to the Gateway of India, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports, Shivaji Chowk to Vasai Virar, as well as extensions in Pune and Nagpur.
