en.Wedoany.com Reported - The BP-operated Shah Deniz consortium has awarded Emerson the automation contract for the Shah Deniz Compression (SDC) project. The contract covers the provision of integrated control and safety systems for a new unmanned offshore platform, with the contract value undisclosed.
Emerson will deliver process control, safety shutdown, fire and gas detection, and power management systems, enabling real-time monitoring and remote control of critical production processes on the platform. These systems will form the core of the operational control architecture for the unmanned compression platform.
The SDC project, with an investment of approximately $2.9 billion, entails the construction of an electrically driven, normally unmanned compression platform in the Caspian Sea off Azerbaijan. The platform will be installed at a water depth of approximately 85 meters, about 3 kilometers from the existing Shah Deniz Bravo platform.
The new platform will be equipped with four compressors, each with a capacity of 11 megawatts, to receive natural gas from the Shah Deniz Alpha and Bravo platforms. After compression, the gas will be transported to the onshore Sangachal terminal in Azerbaijan.
The project also includes the construction of associated offshore facilities within the Shah Deniz contract area, as well as modifications to existing facilities on the Alpha platform, Bravo platform, and the Sangachal terminal. The project is currently approximately 30% complete overall, with around 2,700 personnel deployed, and is scheduled for completion in 2029.
Under the project schedule, the SDC platform is planned to receive gas from the Alpha platform for compression in 2029, with gas from the Bravo platform expected to be tied in by 2030. The project is expected to support the additional production and export of approximately 50 billion cubic meters of natural gas and around 25 million barrels of condensate from the Shah Deniz field.
The Shah Deniz consortium is operated by BP with a 29.99% stake, with other partners including LUKOIL, TPAO, Southern Gas Corridor Upstream, NICO, and MVM.
